Japan will soon be welcoming its rainy season. Hydrangea macrophylla flowers are representative of this season. On the entrance path to Ohirasan Temple in Tochigi City in Tochigi Prefecture, there is a spot to view these flowers called “Hydrangea Slope” (“Ajisaisaka” in Japanese).
On the 1000-step stone stairs leading up to the shrine, around 2,500 hydrangea strains bloom, including Western hydrangeas, lacecap hydrangeas, and mountain hydrangeas. The colorfully blooming hydrangea flowers are extremely beautiful and make Japan’s rainy season more enjoyable!
The best time to see the hydrangea flowers is from late June to early July. Be sure to enjoy these hydrangea flowers, the unique highlight of Japan’s rainy season! *For detailed information on the blooming situation, please visit the homepage.
